Cavers and Campbell named All-Americans


Congratulations to Kevin Cavers and Kinsey Campbell, as they were named All-Americans by the NSCAA. Cavers, a junior from Arlington Heights, Illinois, was named to the first team after posting eight goals, eight assists, and three game-winning-goals. Campbell, headed the stifling defense and notched a goal and an assist on the year.

Many days ago, 104 to be exact, the 2012 season officially started with 54 student-athletes in camp fighting for a spot on the Duhawks varsity roster.
Following a shocking exit from the NCAA Tournament in 2011, there was a sense of hunger and desire to make the outcome in 2012 different. Led by Captain Dan Figura, the Duhawks pushed their way through the two-a-days and six-packs to make it to opening night.

Duhawks flock to San Antonio

After leaving Dubuque on Tuesday night, the Men’s Soccer team spent the night in Chicago before their 9:05 flight Wednesday morning to San Antonio. For all but two players, this is their first experience of the Final Four. For Malcolm Calbert and Andy Filipiak, it’s a reminder of 2008, when Loras advanced to the Final Four before losing 3-0 to Messiah College. Loras will have its chance to prove to the country that they’re the real deal on Friday morning when the #1 and #2 teams square off at the Blossom Soccer Complex.

After defeating UW-Platteville on Friday night, the Duhawks returned to the Rock Bowl on Saturday to take on the Wheaton College Thunder in the Elite 8, and the chance to play in the Final Four in San Antonio, Texas. These two schools met in the regular season, with Loras coming out on top 2-0. However, when you’re playing soccer on November 17, the stakes are much higher, and both teams were aware of this.

The Loras College women's soccer team is into the Sweet 16 for the third time in program history (2010, 2003) after posting four goals in the Rock Bowl on Saturday night. The host Duhawks defeated Calving 4-2 with a pair of goals in each half.
